Embodied Inquiry

Finding a relaxed moment

Easier said than done?

We can sometimes become so accustomed to discomfort and feeling unwell that we don't notice when our discomfort decreases or even disappears. We limp even when there is no pain; we clench our jaw even though there is no discernible difficulty. Discomfort, injury or feeling unwell can become our "body identity" despite our desire for wellness.

Learning how to relax is the first step to creating a more integrated relationship with the body and discovering a deeper sense of well-being. Settling into a relaxed state allows for more awareness of body sensations. While we are often familiar with sensations that are uncomfortable, learning how to sense more subtle sensations can offer the opportunity to reinterpret what we believe about our body and ourselves. We can experience how movements can be comforting and allow us to rest more comfortably with and in our body.

Embodied Inquiry sessions support you in finding a relaxed state from which to explore your sense of well being. You are invited to bring gentle awareness to sensory information
from the body and be receptive to the insights being offered.

Just relax.

What to expect in an Embodied Inquiry session ~

Dress comfortably so you can move freely. Mats, cushions and other props are available to ensure your body rests and moves comfortably.

Each session will begin by taking time to settle into a comfortable position and being curious about what sensations you might notice in the body. It is not unusual to feel nothing in particular at the beginning.

You will be guided through a variety movements and resting positions. Movements focus on what is most natural for your body, you do not need to be flexible or coordinated. You may explore strength or flexibility depending on what your body is responding to.

Regular pauses allow for check-ins with sensation, awareness and whether the capacity to relax has changed. These check-ins offer the opportunity to adjust the beliefs we have about our body.

Your session may include moments of silence, stillness, movement, sound, questions and conversation. Additional elements that may be utilized include crystal singing bowls, Chakra theory, the Four Earth Elements and other intuitive practices.
